On 9/11 morning, at the National Convention Center, the first milestone event was held within the framework of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) 2018 conference, entitled "ASEAN 4.0: Enterprise spirit and The 4th Industrial Revolution" from 11th to 13th September. Open forum with the subject: "ASEAN 4.0 for all? How can entrepreneurs take advantage of the opportunities in The 4th Industrial Revolution?"
Seize the opportunities
Opening the event, WEF ASEAN President Klaus Schwab said that compared to the 3rd Industrial Revolution, the 4th Industrial Revolution was more comprehensive, new technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of things, robots... will reshape the way we produce, the way we consume, the way we communicate, even the way we live…
As one of the pioneering, time-consuming, devoted, and intelligent economists researching the 4th Industrial Revolution, WEF ASEAN President Klaus Schwab asserted that the 4th Industrial Revolution would not only affect how we live but also "define" who we are.
According to him, at the end of the 4th Industrial Revolution, people will witness the combination of digital technology, material and spirit. Mr. Klaus Schwab said that the highlight of The 4th Industrial Revolution is speed - when he was an engineer, he witnessed that change: things impossible a few years ago become reality only a few years later.

Those who want to succeed in the future should take advantages of the 4th Industrial Revolution. First, they need to be aware of the importance of this transformation. The most important factor, according to Mr. Klaus Schwab, is to build an open society that welcomes changes and to prepare for what is to come. However, he also said that even if the focus of the 4th Industrial Revolution is technology, people should not become too dependent on it but we should grasp, exploit these technologies to make a better life.
WEF ASEAN President Klaus Schwab highly appreciated the WEF organization in Vietnam, one of the fastest developing countries in the region with many dynamic start-ups which play an important role in the process of the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution. He hoped that Viet Nam would be the place for these projects’ leaders to exchange experiences, find out the orientation in the future. He also emphasized the key role of youth as a core force in the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution.
Proactively respond to SAC impacts
In the speech, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh said that we all witness the world is in the trend of strengthening cooperation and international economic association based on the development and achievements of science, technology and innovation, especially the key technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, which have profoundly changed our social life. In that context, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh affirmed that to Vietnam as well as ASEAN countries, approaching the strategic vision, identifying opportunities and challenges in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution is a fast and effective way to select national directions and solutions to create breakthroughs which shorten the development gap with other countries in the world. It also creates opportunities for ASEAN young people to develop their intellectual and creative capacities to turn challenges into opportunities, transform ideas into products and succeed in the process of innovative startups.
Minister Chu Ngoc Anh said that recently, the Government of Vietnam has identified enterprises, including innovative startups, as the center of the economy, science, technology and innovation is the motivation for economic growth and sustainable development; at the same time, it also proactively strengthens its access to The 4th Industrial Revolution.
Up to now, Vietnam has basically formed and developed a fully national innovative startups ecosystem initially attracting a number of domestic and international development resources and has established a number of actions based on national potentials to seize opportunities and actively respond to the impacts of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh proposed that the Conference should focus on discussing ideas and initiatives to promote cooperation among ASEAN countries and global partners to make Southeast Asia truly become a center of innovative startups, to actively take initiative in creating, dominating and exploiting the achievements of The fourth industrial revolution, making the socioeconomic ASEAN countries more intelligent and effective.
Minister Chu Ngoc Anh said that the Government of Vietnam is developing a strategy on science, technology and innovation with a vision to 2035; the 4th Industrial Revolution scenario for Vietnam. In the process of developing and implementing its strategies and action plans, Vietnam has always hoped to cooperate with WEF and ASEAN countries, to readily connect enterprises and national resources of science, technology and innovation with a network of innovative support throughout ASEAN and around the world.

Minister Chu Ngoc Anh expressed Viet Nam’s wish to strengthen dialogue, exchange and receive share, support, cooperation from WEF's leaders, experts and businesses, especially Prof. Klaus Schwab on solutions and action programs to promote the development of science and technology in ASEAN, strengthen the innovative association among ASEAN countries in order to take the best opportunities and effectively respond to the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
At the Open Forum, scientists, technology professionals, start-ups, young people and students have gathered to exchange and discuss ideas and initiatives to promote cooperation among ASEAN countries and global partners to make Southeast Asia truly become a center of innovative startups, to actively take initiative in creating, dominating and exploiting the achievements of The fourth industrial revolution the achievements of The fourth industrial revolution, making the socioeconomic ASEAN countries more intelligent and effective.
This special session is a collaboration between the WEF and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, which aims to create an Open Forum for young people, students, entrepreneurs, young experts and the public to discuss their future in an unprecedented development stage of technology in the ASEAN region. The event also aims to promote the spirit of start-ups and sharing start-ups in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution with the desire to build an ASEAN 4.0 for everyone.
